When you're about to make your drum pattern sound better and hit harder .Once you need to understand the art of Mastering your drums. First sample selection should be you're number one priority because the right samples will give you the right results especially when dealing with drum samples.

To make your drums sound harder and punchy you need to practice more and learn more about leveling, and Eq as well as Mastering. Not only that but Also you need to understand a few tips which I'm going to explain below.

The following are basic tips on how to make my drums hit harder :

  1. Right selection of samples. Proper sampling gives you a choice about mixing and as you know good and quality samples will give you the right results.

  2. Use equalizer. For example, parametric eq, Fabfilter, will help much especially if you want to clean your samples from the beginning so that you can remove unwanted frequency that might interfere with other instruments when mixing

  3. Using a compressor. Compressor works by making your drums pattern stick together and make them cling. Compressors help to smooth your samples and give them punchy vibes. Also, it adds a specific texture that makes your drums knock.

   4. Referencing from others. By listening to a lot of music and learning from other professionals' music, you can easily associate them when you're mixing. You can be inspired which in turn will help you to better understand the differences and art of drums mixing and leveling.

  5. learn basic music theory. This will help you to know the right frequency of each sample you choose and therefore build skills. It has been proved that a little knowledge about music theory especially basic knowledge will take you far more in music production, it will guide you in a few aspects of music production and ensure your good results.

  6. using the right gears or tools. This includes making sure your headphones or monitors are quality enough to hear the low and high as well as mid-frequency in detail so that you can separate them for better mixing. You can use Audio Technical, Beyerdynamic, Sony and many others as tools to hear the frequency in detail.

  7. Separating instruments. Each instrument should have its frequency of play by doing this, It will help your drums to have space in them thus building clarity and adding space for each to be audible clearly.

 8. Master the art of leveling. Leveling Can take you far more than ever. Because leveling is basic by which producers can estimate each sample's loudness when other samples are playing.

Therefore the above are tips about why your drums do not knock, and how to make them hit harder.
